John Altdorfer
Staff Writer

John Altdorfer brings more than 15 years’ experience as a writer for the corporate publications of Ingersoll Rand, ExxonMobil, Chevron, JP Morgan Chase, SyBase and John Deere.

John once taught high school English. But when impending staff reductions helped him see the writing on the chalkboard, he started a new chapter as a magazine editor in Pittsburgh and Philadelphia. Looking for a new challenge, he turned another career page to try his hand at direct mail, creating successful fundraising campaigns for Mothers Against Drunk Driving (MADD), Special Olympics, The Salvation Army and other leading non-profit organizations.

During the year 2000, John once again re-invented his career as a freelance writer, which led to his association with some of the country’s best-known Fortune 500 companies. In addition, he’s donned a tux and black tie to cover high-society benefit galas for a Pittsburgh newspaper. When the party’s over, he makes like Lance Armstrong and pedals his bike a few thousand miles each year.

Though a native Pittsburgher, John fiercely cheers for the New York Yankees, much to the chagrin of his two Red Sox rooting sons. His wife does her best to steer clear of all baseball brouhahas.
